During the winter, several fishing villages in Maine are cut off from many necessary resources, and Sigma Kappa supports these areas by sending clothing, blankets, food, other household items, and monetary donations. Sigma Kappa’s oldest philanthropy, Maine Sea Coast Mission, is held close to heart and became an official philanthropy of Sigma Kappa due to being founded in Maine in 1874. This year, Sigma Kappa is proud to announce the one million dollar donation our sorority made to the Alzheimer's Association through raising money nationally over the past two years. Through Alzheimer's disease and gerontology related research grants from the Sigma Kappa Foundation, Sigma Kappa has become one of the nations leading contributors to Alzheimer's disease prevention, research, and treatment efforts. Sigma Kappa also participates in Memory Walk, a 5K walk/run on the Michigan State campus, and volunteers at local nursing homes. Each fall, Sigma Kappa hosts "Sigmalympics," a day of interactive field events which various Greek Life organizations, clubs and sports teams on campus pay to compete in order to raise money for the Sigma Kappa Foundation. Sigma Kappa supports five philanthropies that spell out Sigma Sigma Kappa Foundation, Inherit the Earth, Gerontology, Maine Sea Coast Mission and Alzheimer's Association.
Recent social events include date parties to Pistons games, spring formals at a Country Club in the Lansing area, and semi-formals on Riverboat and in Novi! With a beautiful house, a convenient location, and the capacity to house 54 women, the Sigma Kappa chapter house is located five minutes from campus on M.A.C. At Michigan State, Sigma Kappa is proud of having one of the highest grade point averages among the other fourteen sororities.
